Project Decode

Project Decode aims to decode the European trends and needs in upskilling and reskilling cultural tourism operators, professionals, and volunteers in rural and/or deprived areas.

The Institute for Sustainable Education and Development (ISEDE) E.V., Theodoros Tsanakas Maria Koimisoglou OE, DALPRO AS, Synthesis Center for Research and Education Limited, and Vienna Association of Education Volunteers, have come together to form the consortium for the EU project “Project Decode.”

Project Decode aims to decode the European trends and needs in upskilling and reskilling cultural tourism operators, professionals, and volunteers in rural and/or deprived areas.

Cultural tourism is a growing industry in the EU, with 4 out of 10 European tourists choosing their destination based on its cultural offering. However, in rural areas, small businesses in the tourism industry lack cooperation and workforce skills and qualifications.

The project is designed to address the needs of local communities and tourism professionals in rural and/or deprived areas by providing them with the necessary skills and competencies to promote their local area in the field of cultural tourism through a training course and the use of digital technology. The project also includes the creation of an online resource platform and an open badges accreditation system to validate the learners’ knowledge.

Expected Results

The Decode project aims to promote upskilling pathways for cultural tourism operators in rural and/or deprived areas and provide them with an innovative and interactive training program. The expected results of the project include:

  • Promoting upskilling pathways for cultural tourism operators in rural and/or deprived areas.
  • An innovative and interactive training program for cultural tourism operators in rural and/or deprived areas.
  • A learning, teaching, and training activity for at least 12 adult educators in the field of cultural tourism.
  • 6 national reports on the outcomes of the training program for improvement.
  • Training at least 60 local operators in the field of tourism in rural and/or deprived areas.
  • An online resource platform with interactive material and an open badges accreditation system for skill validation.
  • Three face-to-face transnational meetings and 1 online meeting.
  • 6 multiplier events (5 national and 1 transnational).
  • A sharing and promotional plan and strategy.
  • Networking opportunities for partners.

The Decode project is an important initiative that will help bridge the skills and competencies gap in the cultural tourism industry in rural and/or deprived areas. The consortium partners bring together a range of skills and expertise to implement this project and ensure its success.
